The 2005 Ozzfest kicked off at the Download Festival in the UK, before moving on to the US playing 20+ shows between July 15th and September 4th. Bands playing on the main stage were headliners: Black Sabbath supported by Iron Maiden (from July 15 - August 20), Mudvayne, Shadows Fall, Black Label Society, In Flames, Velvet Revolver (from August 23 - September 4), Slipknot (July 31 and August 20 only), Drowning Pool (August 25 only). The second stage included performances by Rob Zombie, Killswitch Engage, As I Lay Dying, Mastodon, A Dozen Furies, The Haunted, Arch Enemy, The Black Dahlia Murder, Bury Your Dead, It Dies Today, Soilwork, Gizmachi, Wicked Wisdom and Trivium.
The tour was infamous for the bad feeling between Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson and the Osbournes culminating in the last night when eggs were thrown at Maiden and their power was cut a number of times. Maiden persevered, delivering a thunderous 60-minute set and following their departure, Ozzfest founder, Sharon Osbourne came on stage. She told the audience that, while she absolutely loved Iron Maiden and their crew but Dickinson was a pr*** and had disrespected Ozzfest since they began their stint with the tour. Her words were met with incessant booing, and she walked off the stage. The night ended, as most Ozzfest nights do, with a set from Black Sabbath.
